History of the Faverolle
The Faverolle is a composite breed originating from crosses of Houdans, Dorkings and Asiatics in the village of Faverolle, France, where they were bred primarily for utility. The production of heavy table poultry and winter eggs was the main object of the french poultry keepers in establishing this breed.
Economic Qualities
A general purpose fowl for the production of meat and eggs. Color of skin, white; color of egg shells, light brown. Known for heavy egg laying during winter months.
Beauty in Varieties Untold
The faverolles are seen in many varieties of color which enhances the type of the bird.
In Large Foul they are found in Salmon and White, some breeders are currently working on other colors. In the Bantam form they can be seen in Salmon White Black Blue Buff and Splash.
There are breeders working on other colons such as Ermine and Blue Salmon. So one can see, Faverolles can come in many varieties of color and two specific sizes.
Disposition
The docile disposition is a trait the Faverolles are known for. It has been said repeatedly that each of these birds appear to have a personality that is friendly and of an inquisitive nature.
Either male on female can easily become of "pet" status if handled enough and treated kindly. They normally get along well with most other breeds of chickens and waterfowl.
Breed ability & Hatchability
Faverolles are natural breeders and the females prolific egg layers. Therefore, most hatches are within the 96%+ range of eggs set and the livability of the chicks usually equal.
The chicks should not be housed with breeds of a more aggressive nature as the Faverolles chicks are of a somewhat timid nature.
Faverolles females of either size can become broody and used as a dependable source of natural incubation.
